Description
'55 HeLL's Island - John Payne This is a 16mm color/sound film print of the great 1955 Classic Film Noir - "Hell's Island" starring John Payne. Here's a synopsis from AMG: " Phil Karlson, well-regarded by film buffs for his tough, no-nonsense crime dramas, directed this adventure story shot partially on location in the Caribbean. Mike Cormack (John Payne) was once a District Attorney, until his fiancée, Janet Martin (Mary Murphy), left him to marry another man. Depressed, Mike began drinking heavily, and eventually his alcoholism cost him his job. Trying to pull himself back up after hitting bottom, Mike gets a job as a bouncer at a casino in Las Vegas. Barzland (Francis L. Sullivan), a handicapped criminal, approaches Mike with an unusual offer. Barzland will pay Mike $5,000 if he can locate a ruby that went missing following the disappearance of a plane in the West Indies. Mike discovers that the reason he was picked for this job is that the pilot of the plane, Eduardo (Paul Picerni), is the man Janet chose to marry, and Barzland and his men believe that she might have clues as to the ruby's whereabouts that Mike could uncover. However, when Mike arrives to meet with Janet, he discovers that Eduardo is now in jail, and Janet begins to snare Mike in a web of lies and deceit. Hell's Island was rereleased in 1962 under the title South Sea Fury. ." Note: Pictures Below this line are from the actual print. Print Condition : Physical Condition: Excellent print - a couple of minor (inconsequential in my view) violence edits. Color: stunning IB Technicolor. Vinegar Syndrome: No sign of vinegar . Notes on Color: Color ratings are generally subjective. Here are the ratings I use: · IB Technicolor/Kodachrome – These are dye transfer processes that should never fade · Lowfade – this print is on a stock that will not fade for a long time · Excellent color – print that is not on a low fade stock but shows no signs of fading · Very Good color – print that has a slight shift, but retains most of its color. It may have a slight redish/pinkish/brownish cast to it, but has strong color. · Good Color – has a noticeable shift, but still maintains much of it’s color. Also knows as ‘Warm’ · Fair color – Has shifted substantially to Red/Pink but still has blues and greens in it. · Pink/Red – Print has turned mainly to pink or red, there may be some greens and blues left, but not much.
