Description
This is a very good to Excellent condition, vintage ORIGINAL 16mm, BEAUTIFUL dye-transfer TECHNICOLOR sound CINEMASCOPE movie print of the very entertaining 1966 western adventure feature film motion picture classic titled... "THE APPALOOSA" Director: Sidney J. FurieThe Appaloosa is one of the better Marlon Brando westerns. The title character is a beautiful horse, stolen from buffalo hunter Brando early in the proceedings. The thief is Anjanette Comer's nasty boyfriend, Mexican bandit chieftan John Saxon. In his efforts to retrieve his property, Brando is subjected to torture and humiliation by Saxon and his minions. A later foray into Saxon's camp results in a brutal wrestling match between Brando and the bandito. Again left to die, Brando is rescued by Comer, who despises her "lover" and prefers Brando's company. During the violence-laden climax, Brando his forced to choose between Comer and his beloved Appaloosa. Russell Metty's gritty photography and terrific WideScreen compositions add greatly to the mood of The Appaloosa.CAST: Marlon Brando - Matt Fletcher Anjanette Comer - Trini John Saxon - Chuy Medina Emilio Fernández - Lazaro Alex Montoya - Squint Eye Miriam Colon - Ana Rafael Campos - Paco "The Appaloosa" is a superior spaghetti-like western with a great performance by Marlon Brando and very good ones by Golden Globe nominee John Saxon and Anjanette Comer. Brando plays a white man raised by Mexicans who returns from the Civil War tired of killing and ready to build a ranch around one Appaloosa stallion. Brando has the misfortune of becoming a tool for Comer to escape the clutches of Saxon. Saxon retaliates by stealing Brando's stallion, and Brando follows Saxon into Mexico to reclaim it. Director Sidney J. Furie ("The Ipcress File," "Iron Eagle") extensively uses extreme close-ups of faces, in the same manner as Sergio Leone, but not for the same purpose. Furie uses these close-ups to establish intimacy between the characters and the audience. This works beautifully in "The Appaloosa," particularly so since the story is low-key and Brando's character is by no means a superman. This is a VERY RARE ANAMORPHIC print that requires a special scope lens for the proper WideScreen projection! This GORGEOUS, NON-FADING IB TECHNICOLOR print is mounted on one 1600 foot and one 2000 foot reel... all ready to project! There is no vinegar smell or warping! The image shown is for illustration only.
