Description
These 4 tapes, in 3/4 U-matic format, are the original, 1981 PBS series of "The Search for Alexander the Great" hosted by James Mason, starring Nicholas Clay as Alexander the Great and Ian Charleson as Hephaistion.  The episodes are 60 minutes each.  Requires a U-matic compatible player.  Will not play on standard U.S. VCR video players. First episode: The Young Lion Second episode: The Young Conqueror Third episode: Lord of Asia Fourth episode: The Last March I bought the tapes from the University of Idaho, which had them stored in their basement.  I paid to have the second tape restored, as it had some moisture damage.  There are some slight defects: on the second tape, the film periodically dances up and down a bit; however, the film always remains full on-screen.  The last 2 minutes of the final tape flicker on and off.  By that time, the story has been told, and the few remaining minutes are a historical montage.  Should you purchase these tapes, you agree to accept these slight defects. FYI - I had these tapes converted to DVD under the Fair Use Act for my personal home viewing, as U-matic is an antiquated video-tape format.  Should you want to do the same with the tapes, I recommend using HD Media Services - www.HDmediaservices.com.  They charge about $15.50 per tape to convert, and the finished product is great.
