Description
For the ultimate LD-to-DVD transfer, you've got to start with the ultimate equipment. The Empire didn't mess around with medium-sized space stations and underpowered lasers — it built the Death Star, with enough power to destroy a planet in one shot. for people  not satisfied with "good enough," this machine has by far the best quality output of any laserdisc player ever made. Built by Pioneer solely for the Japanese domestic market, the Pioneer HLD-XØ (that's X zero) cost a fortune and was designed to do exactly one thing: play NTSC laserdiscs like no other player before or since. The XØ is nearly $7000 of pure uncompromised engineering, and it really shows in the output image. The engineers behind this monster obviously paid a lot of attention to the tiniest of details, and those details all add up to make a huge difference. As an example of its no-compromises approach, the XØ has a true 75-ohm BNC connector on the back, not just a cheap RCA connector. The XØ's composite output picks up the video stream before it is broken into chroma and luma. This seemingly-small detail allows us to use today's superior methods of processing the 'raw' composite signal, whereas nearly all other players separate first — with now-obsolete components — and then recombine to form the composite output. This means the composite signal has already been through a bunch of outdated processing before you can get at it. Even the much-lauded CLD-97 and CLD-99 players do internal Y/C separation prior to noise reduction and then recombine Y and C to create the composite signal. Since our source laserdiscs are encoded in composite, it is important that we use this output rather than S-Video. As you might expect by now, the XØ's laser is also not the cheap, standard infrared laser diode found in most players — it is a higher-frequency, "visible laser" diode that has a much tighter beam for a smaller spot size. This means you end up with far fewer dropouts and way less crosstalk. Mechanically, the XØ is one of the only laserdisc players that uses a linear motor; nearly every other LD player uses a conventional spindle motor. This beast is designed for one thing, and one thing only: the best laserdisc playback possible. You can't even put a CD in an XØ, as its clamping mechanism is designed purely for laserdiscs, unlike the compromised hybrid LD/CD/DVD clamps found in most other 'decent' players. This LD-only monster weighs in at a gargantuan 36 kilograms (80 pounds), and there is not a gram of extra just-for-show padding or weights in there — it's all build quality.  tested and works great. couple small nicks on top lip and small scratch on right hand side.  shipping to farthest part of usa from me is about 200$ so if closer to bc canada should be cheaper.  must add 50$ to total  for pro double box packaging  ,only the best for this baby  ..
